Katz appointed chief justice
of U.S. Bankruptcy Court
The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Massachusetts announced this week that Hon. Elizabeth D. Katz will become the chief judge of the court on Dec. 10. She succeeds Hon. Christopher J. Panos, whose term is expiring. Pursuant to a standing order of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the chief judge of the Bankruptcy Court is appointed for a four-year term based on seniority of appointment as a bankruptcy judge.
Immediately prior to her appointment, Katz had been a founding partner at Rescia, Katz & Shear LLP. She was appointed to the federal bankruptcy bench in March 2017 and sits in Springfield and Worcester.

BMC Roxbury Division celebrates bicentennial
The Roxbury Division of the Boston Municipal Court recently celebrated its bicentennial, which was led by several legal legends who spent their early careers at the court as members of the Roxbury Defenders, attorneys of color who worked to bring “equal justice and high quality legal services to communities of color.”

Updated USDC jury plan now effective
On June 7, 2022, the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts approved to wholly replace section 10 and add new section 11 to the current jury plan. Modifications to the plan were approved by the First Circuit Judicial Council on Oct. 6, and this revised plan is effective as of today, Dec. 1.
