On Jan. 31, the Asian-American Lawyers Association of Massachusetts hosted “Speed Mentoring Night” at Zen Japanese Grill & Sushi Bar in Boston. The brainchild of AALAM Director Eunice Chapon and run by AALAM Vice President Tina Matsuoka and Director Victor Diune, the night started with a meet-and-greet reception.
It was followed by five 15-minute mentoring sessions in which law students and junior lawyers were paired up with more senior AALAM attorneys with a variety of backgrounds (large and mid-size law firms, in-house attorneys, government and public sector attorneys and solo practitioners).
The sessions were meant to be brief and informative and create a unique opportunity for one-on-one dialogue with experienced attorneys from different fields and affiliations.
The Asian-American Lawyers Association of Massachusetts will hold its 23rd Annual Banquet on Thursday, April 17, at the Boston Harbor Hotel, 70 Rowes Wharf, Boston. The annual banquet provides an opportunity for AALAM members, as well as its supporters throughout the Massachusetts legal community, to socialize and celebrate AALAM’s accomplishments of the past year and to renew their commitment in the coming year.
Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley will be the keynote speaker for the evening, which will begin with a networking cocktail hour from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by a sit-down dinner.
The Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association will hold its 2008 Gala Dinner on Thursday, March 27 at the Sheraton, Boston Hotel. Goodwin Procter counsel Wayne A. Budd, the former U.S. associate attorney general and a past president of both the MBLA and the Massachusetts Bar Association, will be the keynote speaker.
The MBLA will also honor pioneering judges: The Hon. Margaret Burnham, the first black female judge in Massachusetts, and the Hon. Joyce London Alexander, the first black female federal magistrate judge in the United States.

The Massachusetts Lesbian and Gay Bar Association will host its 23rd Annual Dinner at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge on Friday, May 9. A cocktail reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will commence at 7 p.m. For more information, visit www.mlgba.org.
Members of the Hampden County Bar Association’s New Lawyers Section sponsored a homeless luncheon on Feb. 16 at the South Congregational Church in Springfield. HCBA New Lawyers Section members and their families served meals to more than 100 people. This annual event has been sponsored by the HCBA New Lawyer Section for the past several years.
