Get Involved! in Mock Trial, Elder Law Education Program

Issue Februray 2004

Mock Trial judges needed immediately
In preparation for the 19th Annual Statewide Mock Trial Program, the MBA invites you to volunteer as a judge. Open to all public and private high school students in Massachusetts, the Mock Trial Program is a rich curriculum that promotes the development of fundamental knowledge, sound judgment and critical thinking skills.

Students are placed in a simulated courtroom situation where they assume the roles of lawyers and witnesses in a hypothetical case.

This year's case is a trial before a judge on the merits of the case as to liability and damages. In this case, the plaintiff alleges the defendant contributed to the infringement of copyrighted material by a third person. Was the student encouraged to infringe the copyright of the musician or was the student the lone infringer? Is the professor liable for contributory infringement or was it a fair use of the musician's work in a scholastic setting? You be the judge.

Elder Law Education Program

In celebration of Law Day in May, MBA members throughout the state volunteer to speak at local senior centers or councils on aging on various elder-legal topics. Topics range from basic elder legal issues to more substantive areas of law.
