Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021

massbarbeatforeJThanksgiving is next week and the December holidays are right behind. While this time of year is considered a time of celebration, the Massachusetts Bar Association recognizes that, for many people in the legal profession, it can also bring heightened feelings of stress, anxiety or depression due to increased work and social pressures.

The MBA’s Lawyer Well-Being Committee is committed to supporting MBA members and the legal community by offering resources to help navigate mental health challenges, especially during the holidays. The assortment of articles and resources on the MBA’s Health and Well-Being webpage, which includes access to “The Path to Lawyer Well-Being: A Toolkit for Bar Associations in Massachusetts,” is a great place to start. The committee has also put together a new MassBar Beat podcast episode about holiday stress that is available to listen to now.

In this episode, MBA Lawyer Well-Being Committee Co-chair Marianne C. LeBlanc and lawyer-turned-therapist Andrew Kang, JD, LICSW, talk with host Jordan Rich about the increased stress and pressure that lawyers feel generally and especially around the holidays. In addition to offering coping strategies, they encourage lawyers to seek help when needed and embrace individual wellness as a normal and necessary part of their professional journey.
