The MBA is deeply saddened by the loss of Richard D. Packenham, a widely respected family law attorney, who passed away Monday, Oct. 3, 2005. Attorney Packenham, who was universally known as “Packy,” touched the lives of many in our profession and was known for his sense of humor, friendly disposition and love of the law.
Packy’s accomplishments and victories as a lawyer were substantial, as were his contributions to the MBA and the legal profession. He was a lecturer at countless Continuing Legal Education programs across the state and his case law “update” programs analyzing the latest court decisions and trends in family law were regularly featured by the MBA.
Packy raised the bar at these forums by encouraging judges and lawyers to look at the law in new ways, which in turn sometimes helped to shape the direction of the law itself. Packy loved to discuss cutting-edge legal issues and was a resource for the MBA and many lawyers. He also served as co-chair of the MBA Goodridge Same-Sex Task Force. As a lawyer, colleague and friend, Packy was well liked and will be sorely missed.
We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife, Susan, and their children, as well as to Phyllis Federico, Mary Schmidt and others at his firm, Packenham Schmidt & Federico PC. Memorial donations may be made to:
