Several Boston law firms have been ranked among the nation's top law firms by American Lawyer for diversity, pro bono work and business excellence, placing in the country's largest 200 firms.

The firms placing in the top 200 along with their ranks include the following:

Hale and Dorr (13th); Palmer & Dodge (29th); Ropes & Gray (58th); Choate, Hall & Stewart (65th); Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo (79th); Goodwin Procter (83rd); Brown Rudnick Berlack Israels (112th); Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault (116th); and Foley Hoag (148th).

American Lawyer publishes the rankings as an indicator of which firms lead the legal industry in business and professional standards. The magazine judged firms based on revenue per lawyer, number of lawyers who perform 20 or more hours of pro bono work annually, associate lawyers' satisfaction with the firm (based on a private survey) and percentage of minority lawyers on staff.
