In Memoriam, Hon. Rudolf Kass
Longtime Massachusetts Bar Association member Justice Rudolph Kass (ret.) passed away on Friday, June 4.
Kass was appointed to the Massachusetts Appeals Court in 1979 by Gov. Michael Dukakis. He remained on the bench until 2003, serving an almost 25-year tenure. After he stepped down, he joined The Mediation Group, working in alternative dispute resolution.
In 2018, Kass was honored with the MBA's Volunteer Recognition Award, which salutes members who volunteer substantial time and effort to the mission, programs and publications of the MBA, or who otherwise enhance the organization in a significant way. Kass remained active in the legal community well into his retirement, lending his judicial expertise to the Massachusetts Law Review Board, of which he was a beloved member. He accumulated more than a decade of volunteer service as an editor and an author of case comments.
Kass emigrated to the United States from Germany at age 3. He received his B.A. from Harvard College in 1952, and went on to receive his LL.B. from Harvard Law School in 1956.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Kass can be made to 2Life Communities or Planned Parenthood. Click here to view Kass' obituary.
