Eighth Annual Public Law Conference scheduled for June 11

Join us for the Eighth Annual Public Law Conference, on Thursday, June 11, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the MBA in Boston. The conference will focus on Democracy in Action. Conference highlights include:

  • What's New at the State House?
    A question and answer session with Gov. Baker's Chief Legal Counsel Lon Povich
  • Article 48 of the Massachusetts Constitution: Initiative Petitions
    A look at the legal mechanics, jurisprudence and salient issues regarding initiative petitions. This panel discussion will examine some of the policy implications of "legislation by referendum" and Massachusetts' recent experience with referendums, in addition to the legal issues raised.
  • Public Protests and Demonstrations
    A discussion of practical and legal steps community representatives can take to balance public order and safety with the protection of rights of free speech and assembly.
