A five-member team from the Massachusetts Trial Court participated in the Leadership Institute in Judicial Education 2003 held at the University of Memphis from June 10-15, including Suffolk Juvenile Court Clerk-Magistrate Donna M. Ciampoli; Probate and Family Court Judge Edward F. Donnelly, Jr.; Franklin/Hampshire Counties Juvenile Court Chief Probation Officer Edward A. Driscoll; Superior Court Judge Robert J. Kane; and Director of Judicial Education Ellen M. O'Connor.
The Leadership Institute in Judicial Education introduces learning styles and the use of the experiential learning cycle into the designing of judicial branch education programs and into the teaching methods used in individual courses, and explores an assortment of models of development, including learning styles, life cycle and cognitive development.
Jennifer L. Levi has been named to the faculty at the Western New England College School of Law. She will teach in the areas of contracts, family and constitutional law.
Most recently, Levi was senior staff attorney for Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders in Boston. Prior to that, she was a visiting professor at Chicago-Kent College of Law in Chicago, worked as an associate attorney for two Chicago law firms and clerked in the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit in Boston.
Thomas A. Mackie, managing shareholder of Moehrke, Mackie & Shea, P.C., has been elected to the board of directors of the Environmental Business Council of New England. For the past two years, Mackie has been chairman of the Solid Waste Committee of the Environmental Business Council.
Gregory P. Varga was named as counsel to the Hartford, Ct.-based firm Robinson & Cole.
Varga focuses his practice on the counseling and representation of insurance companies in complex litigation and prelitigation coverage disputes. He has substantial experience in a wide range of matters of concern to insurers, including property and liability insurance coverage and claims-related litigation, arson/fraud cases, large-loss property insurance subrogation and extra-contractual liability. Varga has litigated insurance cases in the state and federal courts of Massachusetts, Connecticut and Pennsylvania and has advocated on behalf of insurers in arbitrations and statutory reference proceedings.
