
USDC in Rhode Island seeks applications
for magistrate judge
The U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time U.S. magistrate judge, serving in Providence, Rhode Island, commencing upon the retirement of Magistrate Judge Lincoln D. Almond in May 2025.
The duties of the position are demanding and wide-ranging, including, but not limited to:
(1) conduct of most preliminary proceedings in criminal cases; (2) trial and disposition of
misdemeanor cases; (3) conduct of various pretrial matters and evidentiary proceedings on delegation from a district judge; and (4) trial and disposition of civil cases upon consent of the litigants. The basic authority of a U.S. magistrate judge is specified in 28 U.S.C. § 636, and a summary of magistrate judge duties is maintained at www.uscourts.gov.
The term of office is eight years; incumbents may be reappointed to successive terms.

U.S. Bankruptcy Court accepting certifications
for Pro Bono Honor Roll
The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Massachusetts is accepting certifications for its 11th Annual Pro Bono and Public Service Honor Roll. The Honor Roll acknowledges and thanks those individual attorneys and law students who provided pro bono services or participated in certain public service programs during the period of Sept. 1, 2023, to Sept. 1, 2024.
To be acknowledged, attorneys must submit a certification that they have met the criteria established by the court’s Pro Bono Legal Services Advisory Committee. Law students who have met the criteria must also submit a certification, along with the acknowledgement of the attorney supervisor. Participation is entirely voluntary.
Certifications should be sent to probono@mab.uscourts.gov by Oct. 11 to be listed on the Pro Bono and Public Service Honor Roll on the court’s website.

The bankruptcy judges for the District of Massachusetts have issued for comment amendments to the Massachusetts Local Bankruptcy Rules. The proposed amendments are reflected in the redlined document set forth on the court’s website.

The proposed amendments are extensive and incorporate the applicable standing orders from the last several years.
