The Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the Massachusetts Bar Association is seeking a candidate for its 2023-24 board of directors.
Membership in the YLD is for members of the Massachusetts bar who have been licensed for 10 years or less in any state bar. Its board of directors comprises four officers (chair, chair-elect, treasurer and secretary), 12 directors-at-large, and a director representing each of the 12 regions (Berkshire, Bristol, Essex, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Middlesex, Norfolk, Plymouth, Suffolk, Worcester and Barnstable/Dukes/Nantucket).
This is an excellent opportunity to become involved in the YLD and the MBA. The board meets monthly to discuss events and brainstorm ways to foster a deeper relationship with the diverse and vibrant Massachusetts communities. This includes collaborating with various affinity groups to celebrate Massachusetts' rich cultural diversity and history.
Last year, the YLD celebrated the Chinese New Year by organizing a cooking class with Chef Asia Mei at her beloved local restaurant, Moonshine 152. The Asian American Lawyers of Massachusetts Association (AALAM) co-hosted the event. The YLD celebrated Black History Month with the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association (MBLA) by co-hosting Hella Black Trivia at District 7, a Black-owned bar in Roxbury. The YLD also celebrated Pride Month with the LGBTQ Bar Association by co-hosting a Drag Brunch in Fenway. The South Asian Bar Association of Greater Boston (SABAGB), joined in on a fun networking event called The Price is What?, which was co-hosted with the SABAGB for a second time in a row.
The YLD also organizes and regularly volunteers with the MBA's Dial-A-Lawyer program, and various local organizations, such as Bridge Over Troubled Waters, the Greater Boston Food Bank, Pine Street Inn, the Special Olympics and the annual Lawyers Have Heart 5K.
YLD leaders organize CLEs for new attorneys on topics including contract drafting, criminal law, taking depositions, trial strategy, and associate transition and advancement, while also coordinating with law schools to provide programming and scholarships for law students. You will have opportunities to participate in annual events such as the Young Lawyers Division Symposium and many other educational and networking events put on by the YLD's various committees. We invite you to apply to be a part of an active and vibrant group of young leaders in the Massachusetts legal community.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the YLD board of directors, complete an application and submit it with your resume by Thursday, Nov. 30.
If you have any questions about the YLD or its board of directors, please feel free to contact YLD Chair Batool Raza.
