The Massachusetts Bar Association is pleased to announce its leadership slate for the 2017-18 association year. Massachusetts Bar Association President Christopher P. Sullivan and his fellow officers begin their terms on Sept. 1.

A partner at Robins Kaplan LLP in Boston, Sullivan will focus his presidency on reinforcing the notion that the MBA is the bar association for every lawyer across the state, regardless of location or practice area.

"The MBA is the home for every single lawyer in the commonwealth of Massachusetts," said Sullivan.

In addition, Sullivan wants to emphasize "bedrock legal principles," such as the rule of law, due process, access to justice and equal protection throughout his year. He hopes to encourage lawyers to think more about their citizenship and civic responsibilities in becoming what he calls "attorney citizens." Another priority for Sullivan is to strengthen the bar's relationship with the judiciary by defending and explaining certain legal decisions.

Alongside Sullivan, the other 2017-18 MBA officers include: President-elect Christopher A. Kenney, Vice President Denise I. Murphy, Treasurer John J. Morrissey  and Secretary Thomas J. Barbar.
