Last week, the Senate Committee on Ways and Means released its budget for FY19. The budget proposal included $19 million in funding for Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation, $1 million over the FY18 appropriation, but short of the House of Representatives’ recommendation of $23 million in funding. Senators Cynthia Stone Creem (D-First Middlesex and Norfolk) and William N. Brownsberger (D-Second Suffolk and Middlesex) have filed an amendment which seeks an additional $4 million in funding. The full Senate is expected to debate the FY19 budget beginning on May 22.
