Join the Animal Law Practice Group on Thursday, March 14, from 5-6:30 p.m. for an open meeting via Zoom. While we plan to continue to provide programming about the numerous areas of animal law, we are also seeking to broaden the goals of this group. More specifically, we want the group to begin to use this platform to take concrete steps to prevent and remedy issues of animal cruelty.

At this meeting, we hope you will make new (or renew) connections with friends and colleagues to learn about areas where efforts can be made to address improving the lives of animals through the legal and legislative process. This meeting will also be an opportunity for members who are interested in a leadership role as a liaison to ask questions and express their interest. Roles include liaisons on education, newsletter and publication, law student outreach, legislation and pro bono efforts.

There are two specific areas we plan to discuss where needless animal suffering continues to take place and where this group can help. First, puppy mills that supply puppies to Massachusetts residents who have been produced in conditions of abject cruelty continue to be an intractable problem. We believe this group may be able to promote and take some crucial actions that will thwart the continued existence of this inhumane practice. Second, testing on animals for the production and sale of cosmetics not only inflicts untold suffering on animals but is increasingly seen as having dubious scientific validity and can be replaced by other scientific methods that do not cause animal suffering.

Please RSVP to receive Zoom meeting information.
