This program is designed to educate lawyers and law students about how to prepare for and conduct a civil jury trial in the Massachusetts state courts from start to finish. Attendees will learn to understand court procedures, the roles of those involved in the trial process and how best to conduct themselves when representing clients at trial. Topics include:

  • Preliminary motions, voir dire and juror challenges;
  • Sequestration of witnesses;
  • Function of the judge, counsel, courtroom personnel and the jury;
  • Preparing clients to be good witnesses;
  • Examining witnesses;
  • The effective use of objections during trial; and
  • Qualifying expert witnesses.
