Esler, Chase and the Practical Implications of these Recent Decisions

Two important Family and Medical Leave Act cases were decided in 2016, Esler v. Sylvia-Reardon at the Supreme Judicial Court and Chase v. United States Postal Service from the First Circuit.   Lawyers representing employers and/or employees will want to know what these cases say and what they say about how we should be advising our clients.  Topics will include best practices for requesting leaves, administering leaves and returns from leave.  We will also discuss under what circumstances a request for a leave extension may become a reasonable accommodation request, and how such requests should be made and managed.
