Massachusetts Bar Association Chief Legal Counsel and Chief
Operating Officer Martin W. Healy was named a 2014 Lawyer of the
Year by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly for his work bringing
voir dire to Massachusetts. Honorees are nominated by
their colleagues, clients and other legal professionals.
The newspaper, in its Jan. 19 profile of Healy and other Lawyers
of the Year winners, noted: "With [Healy] leading the charge, the
MBA, in conjunction with the Massachusetts Academy of Trial
Attorneys, scored a long-sought legislative victory in 2014 with
passage of a bill that requires Superior Court judges to allow
attorney-conducted voir dire. In addition to permitting
lawyers to question jurors during empanelment, the law also lets
attorneys propose a specific dollar amount for damages during
trial."
MBA President Marsha V. Kazarosian said everyone at the MBA should
be proud of Healy's accomplishment, adding: "While Marty was
honored for his work in helping to make voir dire a
reality in Massachusetts, we all know he does so much more for the
bench and bar for which he never seeks recognition - and for which
we all benefit. We are so proud of Marty and lucky to have him as
our colleague."
Healy will be honored along with the other Lawyers of the Year
honorees at Lawyers Weekly's Leaders in the Law event on Thursday,
March 5, 2015, at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel.
