Jumpstart fall with major September conferences

Issue September 2004

Whether you are a family law practitioner or an in-house counsel, the MBA is offering two conferences that will help you with your practice.

The MBA's 14th Annual Family Law Conference will take place Sept. 10-11 at the Cranwell Resort, Spa & Golf Club in Lenox.

This conference, sponsored by the Family Law Section Council, will provide you with the opportunity to meet judges, socialize with colleagues and sharpen your practice skills as you learn practical techniques and insights from a distinguished panel of judges and family law experts.

Sessions include a compelling and timely discussion on advising clients after the same-sex marriage decision in Goodridge v. Department of Public Health. Panelists will discuss what has changed and what hasn't since the historic decision.

Other informative session include an update on recent developments in family law as well as a discussion on how to neutralize the difficult opposing counsel. And, during one of the sessions, you can watch and learn during a demonstration of cross-examination on credibility. The conference also includes a judicial panel, where judges speak candidly about the dos and dont's in their courtrooms.

And, for in-house counsel, the Second Annual In-House Counsel Conference will take place Sept. 23, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Sheraton Newton.

The second annual conference is intended to follow up on the first conference. It also will address current issues of attorney responsibility following the Sarbanes-Oxley Act as well as other important issues facing in-house counsel.
