Western New England College criminal justice professor and MBA member John Claffey of East Longmeadow has been appointed to a special bar advocate commission that will study new ways to resolve a pay dispute for private lawyers appointed to represent the poor. Legislative leaders announced the appointment recently.
Claffey, who has been an assistant professor of criminal justice since 2000 and an adjunct professor from 1995-2000, was one of nine people appointed to the commission.
Claffey is a selectman in East Longmeadow and maintains a private law practice there. He was a sergeant on the Springfield Police Department for 17 years.
