In-house counsel conference set for June 20

Attention in-house counsel: You are invited to attend the MBA's first corporate counsel conference - "Hot Topics on Attorney Responsibility" - on Friday, June 20, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. with lunch following at the Newton Marriott, 2345 Commonwealth Ave., Newton.

This new seminar, which includes a networking lunch, is designed specifically by our expert panel of in-house counsel and outside attorneys to address common legal and ethical issues and practices in today's corporate law departments.

This inaugural conference will focus:

•  The role of the in-house counsel to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley and the professional-responsibility rules, focusing solely on the attorney's responsibility to the corporation;

•  The impact on in-house practitioners of the proposed ABA rules requiring attorneys to actively disclose illegal conduct by corporate officers;

•  Privilege of internal communications and communications with outside counsel; cost-effective methods for utilizing outside counsel; and

•  Corporate counsel's role regarding representing the corporation, management and/or the board of directors in the post-Enron period; balancing the corporate officers' concern over personal liability with the needs of the corporation; tips on how to represent the corporation while maintaining a good rapport with management.
