Court leaders to discuss racial justice and data collection at April 12 seminar

Thursday, March 23, 2023

The Massachusetts Bar Association is proud to join with the Massachusetts Access to Justice Commission’s Racial Equity and Justice Committee and other organizations in co-sponsoring a free seminar on racial justice and data collection on Wednesday, April 12, from 2-5 p.m. Individuals can attend in person at the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) Conference Center, 10 Winter Place, Boston, or by live or recorded webcast.

A panel of court leaders and other experts will discuss the importance of, and challenges inherent in, collecting, maintaining and reporting Massachusetts Trial Court data regarding race and ethnicity — particularly in civil cases — to identify and remedy racial disparities and improve access to justice. The panel dialogue will aim to facilitate communication, coordination and collaboration among justice partners engaged in this type of data collection and analysis.

In addition to the Racial Equity and Justice Committee and MCLE New England, other co-sponsors include the Court Management Advisory Board, Justice Harry J. Elam Judicial Conference, Flaschner Judicial Institute, Boston Bar Association, Hispanic National Bar Association, Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association, Massachusetts Black Women Attorneys, Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation, Massachusetts LGBTQ Bar Association, MA Legal Services' Attorneys of Color Group, and South Asian Bar Association of Boston.
