Magistrate Judge Rules
After a review of public comments, the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts has approved amendments to the following Magistrate Judge Rules:
- Rule 3(15)(b) Dispositive Pre-Trial Motions and Prisoner Cases
- Rule 8(b) Civil Cases
- Rule 15(a) Emergency Magistrate Judge
- Rule 17 Timing of Referral of Civil Motion
- Rule 18 Transmittal of Papers to a Magistrate Judge
- Rule 19 Record of Subsequent Proceedings
- Rule 20 Form of Referral
The amended rules are effective as of Sept. 1, 2022.

Job Opening
SJC seeks assistant single justice coordinator
The Supreme Judicial Court is accepting applications for the position of assistant single justice coordinator in the SJC Clerk's Office for the County of Suffolk.
The chosen candidate will assist the single justice coordinator in performing top-level administrative support functions for the clerk and assistant clerks. Responsibilities include the preparation of the single justice case docket, recording and maintenance of all single justice case filings, and the performance of administrative tasks to ensure that cases are processed efficiently to a determination by the court. Work is performed under the direction of the single justice coordinator, as well as the clerk, assistant clerks and chief of staff.
This is not a remote position. Work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
