Botsford to keynote Fourth Annual Young Lawyers Division Symposium on March 25

The Massachusetts Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division is hosting its Fourth Annual Symposium as a virtual event on Friday, March 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This year’s symposium keynote speaker will be retired Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Associate Justice Margot Botsford. She was elevated to the seat by former Governor Deval Patrick in 2007. Prior to serving on the SJC, she served as an associate justice of the Massachusetts Superior Court. She received her B.A. from Barnard College and completed her J.D. at Northeastern University School of Law. She also earned an M.P.A. from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. 

In 2001, Botsford helped organize the African American Scholars Program at Brookline High School. She also served as an instructor at Northeastern University School of Law, Boston University Law School, the National Judicial College and the Flaschner Judicial Institute. Botsford is currently serving on the SJC Committee for Lawyer Well-Being and as chair of the Massachusetts Professionalism Committee. 

The symposium will also offer multiple programming tracks designed to ensure there is something for everyone, including:

  • Small group networking session (8:30-9 a.m.)
  • Keynote speaker: Hon. Margot Botsford (Ret.)
  • Plenary session: Survive and Thrive
  • Four breakout sessions:
  1. Criminal Law and the Courtroom: Motion Practice
  2. Writing to Win: Proper Civil Motion Practice and Procedure
  3. Dynamite Deals: Best Practices for Contract Drafting, Reviewing and Negotiation
  4. Young Lawyers in Transition: Changing Jobs or Firms

This symposium will be hosted using Zoom. Registration is required by 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, to participate in this program. After you register with the MBA, please look for an email from MassBar Education with the Webinar ID and Password. The email will be sent before the program.
