Town counsel position in Brookline 

The Town of Brookline is seeking an experienced attorney for its lead town counsel position to manage a staff of seven to perform varied legal duties for the town and schools. The position exercises considerable judgment in rendering advice to a broad array of stakeholders, from the Select Board to employees. The town counsel directs all aspects of town and school litigation, including jury trials and appeals before the state and federal courts and administrative agencies.

The town counsel is an experienced attorney with general government experience, including in municipal and public education law, acting as both counsel and as a lead member of the town's executive team. The position requires superior written and oral communication and strong interpersonal skills, with a record of proven leadership and collaboration. Candidates must have a J.D. from an accredited law school and membership in the Massachusetts bar, 10 years of experience in a management position, general litigation experience, and knowledge of public sector law, particularly municipal and school laws.
