Featured CLE: Learn about health care coverage for Massachusetts immigrants on June 6

Thursday, May 30, 2019

MassBarEducatesMany immigrant clients land in limited health insurance coverage despite being eligible for more robust benefits. Often, this occurs because immigrants' attorneys, advocates and health care providers incorrectly believe that their clients do not meet eligibility criteria.

This program, on Thursday, June 6, from noon to 1 p.m., at the MBA in Boston, will help you determine whether your clients may be eligible for better coverage. Additionally, our expert presenter, Andrew P. Cohen, will discuss how changes to federal “public charge” rules are disrupting many immigrants’ access to care. These changes aim to limit access to public benefits, including MassHealth, for many individuals and families who seek lawful permanent resident (LPR) status or visas that allow them to remain in the United States.

As director of Health Law Advocates' Immigrant Initiative, Cohen delivers direct legal services to immigrant clients and facilitates a 100-plus-member Immigrant Healthcare Access Coalition that identifies barriers to care and advocates for policy solutions.
