On Tuesday, May 7, the Senate Committee on Ways and Means released its budget for fiscal year 2020. The budget proposal included $22 million in funding for Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation (MLAC), $1 million over the FY19 appropriation, but short of the House budget recommendation of $23.5. Sen. Cynthia Stone Creem has filed an amendment, which was co-sponsored by Sen. Jamie Eldridge, that seeks an additional $2 million in funding. The full Senate is expected to debate the FY20 budget beginning on Tuesday, May 21.
Please call your state senator and ask them to co-sponsor the amendment filed by Sens. Creem and Eldridge.
