Thank you to all of the volunteers who participated in the June 13 Pro Bono Blitz and Sundae Social.
Massachusetts Bar Association members provided free online legal assistance to low-income Massachusetts residents during a volunteer event that doubled as a “make your own sundae party” on Wednesday, June 13.
Using Mass Legal Answers Online (MLAO), attorneys participating in the Pro Bono Blitz and Sundae Social responded to a broad array of civil legal questions, the most common relating to family, housing and consumer law. Volunteer teams relied on their own expertise and consulted supplementary online resources to assist income-eligible MLAO clients – all while enjoying sundaes and other desserts courtesy of the MBA.
The event began with a training session led by attorney Brian Reichart of the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute, which administers the site. MLAO forms part of the American Bar Association’s Free Legal Answers Project, which received funding from the Massachusetts Bar Foundation, the MBA’s philanthropic partner.
Program attendees are encouraged to continue providing this pro bono service during periods of downtime at work, on the train or in court.
For more information on how you can give back, provide support to communities in need and increase your connections with fellow MBA members, email MBA Director of Community & Public Services Elizabeth O'Neil about volunteer opportunities.
