2017 MBA Mock Trial State Finals
The 2018 Massachusetts Bar Association's High School Mock Trial Program is looking for attorneys to serve as judges at trials scheduled for January, February and March. If you are interested in volunteering to act as a judge for one of the trials listed below, please contact us. Judges will be provided case materials and a Mock Trial Judges' Orientation video.
This year’s hypothetical is a civil case centering around the death of a prominent man, Liam Hizeneye, from an explosion. The dispute is over the enforceability and payout under the $5 million life insurance policy Liam purchased months before he died. If Liam's death was accidental, the policy pays double indemnity -- a $10 million payment. If the insurance company is successful in proving Liam's death was a suicide, it is not required to make any payment under the policy. Was Liam's death a suicide? An accident? Or something else? This hypothetical case gives participants an opportunity to explore different theories to argue in favor (or against) enforcement of the life insurance policy.
