Massachusetts Bar Association President Christopher A. Kenney attended the Nov. 7 Annual Meeting of the Massachusetts Judges Conference to honor outgoing MJC President Thomas C. Horgan with an MBA President’s Award.
Kenney made the surprise presentation, alongside MBA Chief Legal Counsel and Chief Operating Officer Martin W. Healy, to recognize Horgan’s four years of exemplary service to the MJC, and in particular his deep commitment to collaboration between the bench and the bar. Under Horgan’s leadership, the MJC joined with the MBA to advocate for increases in judicial compensation and for the preservation of an independent judiciary, among other important initiatives.
On Nov. 10, Horgan also officially retired from his position as presiding justice of the Central Division of Boston Municipal Court, where he had served since his 1999 appointment by Gov. Paul Cellucci.
In addition to Horgan, the night’s honorees included Hon. Edward M. Ginsburg, (Ret.), founder and president of Senior Partners for Justice (Distinguished Service Award); and Senior Partners for Justice (Doing Justice Award). Boston Police Commissioner William G. Gross delivered the keynote address.
