What Is Mass Legal Answers Online?
Mass Legal Answers Online is a legal advice website that is part of the American Bar Association's Free Legal Answers project. Low income Massachusetts residents post their legal questions to the website and volunteer attorneys answer them directly through the site. Massachusetts Law Reform Institute, with assistance from the Volunteer Lawyers Project of the Boston Bar Association, manages Mass Legal Answers Online. The Massachusetts Bar Foundation, the Boston Bar Foundation and the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation fund MLAO.

Mass Legal Answers Online launched on November 16. In just three weeks, clients have asked more than 80 legal questions!

Why Volunteer With Mass Legal Answers Online?

  1. Choose the questions you want to answer at any time and from any location
  2. There is no required time commitment, although we encourage you to answer at least one question each month
  3. Clients know that your assistance is restricted to answering their civil legal question and that you will not go to court with them or prepare any paperwork
  4. Malpractice coverage is provided to volunteer attorneys for legal guidance provided through the website

Who Can Participate?
All attorneys in good standing who are licensed to practice law in Massachusetts, or registered for pro bono status with the Board of Bar Overseers, including in house counsel and retired attorneys.
