Notable & Quotable

Problems with breath testing machines

"If there was knowledge of this prior and it did not get brought forward, you have to question why it did not get brought forward."

MBA President-elect Robert W. Harnais, MetroWest Daily News, August 8

Harnais was quoted in a story about ongoing problems with breath testing machines across the state. According to this story, officials at the Office of Alcohol Testing were aware of software errors with breath testing machines as early as February 2014. This story also ran in several other news outlets.

Of note:

  • The Judicial Youth Corps (JYC) program in Worcester was featured on Charter TV3 on August 6 (Story begins at the 8:20 mark). JYC gives urban high school students an opportunity to experience the judicial system and learn about the law through educational sessions and hands-on internships in the courts. A collaboration of the Supreme Judicial Court and the MBA, the program is offered statewide in Boston, Worcester and Springfield. The Massachusetts Bar Foundation is the primary sponsor of the Worcester program. MBA member and Worcester JYC coordinator James W. Rosseel is interviewed in the story.
