When disputes arise between owners of a closely held business, they can threaten the continued daily operations of the business and its future viability. Disputes among owners of law firms, medical practices and other professional services present special challenges. This program will provide:

  • A general overview of the duties that owners of closely held service businesses owe to one another, and the entity and the issues (including ethical issues for professionals) that, if dealt with up front, can avoid costly problems in the future
  • An explanation of the most common disputes that arise among owners, and the differences between Massachusetts and Delaware law in resolving such disputes
  • An accounting perspective both for the planning and break-up stages
  • A discussion of remedies for resolving disputes when they do arise, with a particular focus on the benefits of mediation
