Rep. Costello to be honored with the MBA Legislator of the Year Award

The Massachusetts Bar Association will present its Legislator of the Year Award to State Representative Michael A. Costello (D) on Thursday, Nov. 1 at the MBA Gala Dinner. The MBA Legislator of the Year Award is presented annually to a state or federal legislator who has distinguished him or herself in public service through outstanding contributions to the legal profession, courts and the administration of justice.

“We are pleased to bestow Representative Costello with this high honor at one of our signature events of the year,” said David W. White Jr., whose term as MBA president begins this Saturday.

According to White, Costello has been engaged in a number of matters of keen importance to the Massachusetts bar, including criminal law matters, bar advocate pay increases and improvements to the administration of justice.

Costello currently serves as the State Representative of the First Essex District. He was first elected to represent the City of Newburyport and the Towns of Amesbury and Salisbury in November 2002. Having served as a member of the Legislature’s Joint Committee on the Judiciary, Costello currently serves as a member of the House Committee on Ethics and chairs the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security.

The Nov. 1 MBA Gala Dinner will take place at The InterContinental Boston on the city’s waterfront. In addition to the presentation of the Legislator of the Year Award, the dinner will also feature remarks from White and keynote speaker Richard A. Clarke. Clarke is a former White House advisor, counterterrorism expert and best-selling author of “Against All Enemies.”
