Thank you for participating in the Massachusetts Bar
Association's 2016 High School Mock Trial Program. Now in its
31st year, the competition not only introduces students to our
legal system, but also teaches them the important role that
advocacy plays in achieving justice. And while participants
develop critical thinking and public speaking skills that will
benefit them throughout their lives, regardless of whether they
pursue careers in the law, the competition also happens to be an
awful lot of fun.
This year's case will be distributed to teams at the
teacher/attorney coach orientations taking place throughout the
state during the week of October 19. The tournament begins in
January and will culminate in the State Finals, which will be held
in March, 2016. The winning team will then represent Massachusetts
at the National High School Mock Trial Championship in Boise, Idaho
from May 12 to May 14, 2016.
Of course, this competition would not be possible without the
support of the teachers, attorneys, judges and others who volunteer
countless hours to ensure that this program continues to
thrive. Special thanks in particular go to the MBA staff, who
oversee every aspect of the competition and somehow make it look
easy (it's not).
I hope you enjoy this year's case and look forward to seeing you
all at the State Finals.
