Training Related to Dookhan/DPH Cases Part II

The Committee for Public Counsel Services will present a second training to inform members of the defense bar about the latest information on cases emanating from the DPH/Hinton laboratory from 2003 to the present, and to present information and practice tips on post-conviction litigation of these cases.

Anne Goldbach, forensic services director of CPCS, and Nathan Tamulis, forensic services attorney, will provide an update on discovery received in connection with the state police investigation of the Hinton DPH Drug Lab and Annie Dookhan.  Debra Krupp, CPCS Training Coordinator, Terry Nagel, senior appellate counsel at CPCS, and Attorney Michael Traft will address motions to withdraw guilty pleas and motions for new trial, including the tactical considerations and practical issues of litigating these post-conviction cases.

The courts around the state are moving into the second phase of addressing these cases and hearings on motions for new trial will commence shortly. It will be a massive undertaking to ensure each client receives effective representation. For this reason, it is imperative you attend if you have either a Dookhan case or a case involving the DPH more generally -- whether past or present.

Also, before filing any motions on your client's behalf, you must meet your client and make sure that filing a post-trial motion is in your client's best interest, and some clients may be prejudiced by filing such a motion.
