The Massachusetts Bar Association (MBA) is seeking a Media and Communications Manager to play a vital role in advancing the MBA's position as the preeminent voice of the legal profession in the commonwealth. The Media and Communications Manager will manage and coordinate prioritized public relations and communications projects with members of the Communications Department and others throughout the MBA. Reporting to the MBA's Director of Media and Communications, the position will focus mainly on external outreach on behalf of the MBA through media relations and social media. As part of the Communications Department, he/she will also contribute to the MBA's digital and print marketing efforts and publications.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with local, regional and national media contacts and strategize proactive public relations with the Director of Media and Communications
  • Manage the MBA's social media activity
  • Produce content (writing, photography and videography) for MBA print and electronic publications, including Lawyers Journal and e-Journal publications that publicize, promote and market the activities
  • Develop and coordinate advertising schedules and work with the Graphic Design Manager to develop print advertising and other marketing campaigns
  • Work with other MBA departments to develop and execute marketing projects


  • At least 5 years public relations experience (legal industry, corporate in-house or agency preferred)
  • Deep familiarity with print/radio/TV media outlets in Massachusetts
  • Solid understanding of Massachusetts government and the court system
  • Strong, accurate writer (knowledge of Associated Press style preferred)
  • Social-media savvy, familiarity with digital media
  • Clear, persuasive communicator
  • Proactive, strategic thinker
  • Organized, able to work in a team environment under pressure and manage multiple deadlines
  • Tactful, diplomatic and professional: able to interact comfortably with the media, bar leadership, lawyers, judges and the public, including high-profile public figures
