As part of our commitment to Talent Management, and our strategic goal of providing a supportive, high performance client oriented culture, Tully Rinckey, PLLC, is expanding our management team and seeking a Director of Legal Services to manage our New York offices. This position will be located in either our Albany or Syracuse, NY office. 


Job Description:


For this role we are looking for a proven senior attorney with excellent people management skills and experience with training and developing attorneys, including supervising and mentoring.  This position will be responsible for the overall direction, control and leadership of the firm’s New York Legal team.  Your role will operate in conjunction with the Director of Legal Services in other locations, work with the Executive Committee of the firm and provide strategic input and advise management as required.  Effective working relationships are required with all management and support functions.  You will ensure the delivery of a high quality, robust, timely and focused legal service to the group as a result of:


*Coordinating consistent and effective approaches to providing quality and affordable legal service to our clients;

*Effectively manage business risk through appropriate legal structures, processes and communication;

*Oversee delegation of casework to the appropriate member of the legal team and/or manager *Develop a capable, flexible and professional legal team;

*Maintain strategic relationships within and outside of the Legal Team;

*Delegate and manage employee evaluations, employee mentoring, design practice-specific training, implement legal industry best practices;

*Lead activity with regard to strategic alliances, acquisitions, contractual relationships and fulfilling legislative requirements;

*Support the firm through shaping the culture to push into the next stages of our success story.

*Ensure attorney compliance with relevant polices and procedures, including billable hours and revenue, and impose appropriate disciplinary action for violations;

*Negotiate long-term employment contracts with attorneys;

*Serve on the Firm’s Executive Committee;

*Regularly report critical decisions and information to Founding and Managing Partners and other members of the Executive Committee;

* Meet regularly with New York offices’ Managing Partners;

*Respond to internal client complaints relating legal services provided; respond to formal client complaints relating to legal services and fees; interface with professional liability insurance carrier;

* Negotiate terms of separation for departing attorneys;

*Interview attorney applicants and participate in attorney hiring decisions;

*Meet regularly with Finance Department to discuss issues of mutual concern;

* Meet regularly with all attorneys to determine the existence of issues that need to be addressed;

* Conduct case reviews of cases being managed by senior attorneys.




To be considered, you must:


*Be a qualified New York licensed attorney (or eligible to waive into NY within 6 months) with at least 15 years experience operating at a senior level, influencing and enabling business strategy;

*Possess prior experience of working within a multi-office law firm with various practice areas;

*Have excellent leadership and people management skills;

*Possess experience with mergers, acquisitions contract negotiation and mediation/arbitration of legal matters;

*Be aware of professional development trends, external education resources and CLE rules and regulations;

*Proven track record of achievement in attorney training, including program development and delivery;

*Outstanding presentation skills and confidence speaking before large groups;

*Strong project management and follow-through, organizational skills and detail orientation;

*Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple concurrent projects to coordinate own work;

*Have previous experience with complaint and resolution process, work with attorneys on client consulting matters and instruct and manage law clerks, associates and partners.
